Destiny of party switchers in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to analyse party switching in the Czech political system, to describe its reasons and consequences with particular emphasis on further activity of party switchers after their switch. The thesis especially deals with the situation in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic from 1996 to 2010. In the theoretical part, the stress is put on making relevant terminology more coherent and also on clarification of definitions related to party switching (relevant political subjects, possible types of switches etc.) Also, there are mentioned different ways of perception party switching according to politicians, media and the professional public, both Czech and foreign. In the empirical part, focused on the reactions of political subjects and voters towards party switching, there is a comparison of amounts of preferential votes gained in elections and placement on the slates based on the data provided by the Czech statistical office for each elections.
